100% Grass-Fed

Our whey protein is made from the milk of 100% grass-fed cows. The cows are happy, healthy, and this makes for a high biologically available protein. This whey is higher in vital nutrients, with a more complete amino acid profile, and higher levels of CLAs than other more processed brands. It has a fresh, delicious taste! This is the highest quality whey protein you can buy.

22 Grams of Protein

Our grass fed whey protein contains the nutritionist-recommended 22 grams of protein in every serving. This makes our whey a well-rounded whole food source of protein. This is an organic protein concentrate, not an overly processed and chemically treated whey isolate. Containing 16 essential amino acids including glutamine, it is recognized by the body as a real food, and is easily absorbed and made readily available for superior muscle growth.

No Soy Lecithin

Most whey proteins on the market use soy lecithin to improve mixability. This grass fed whey protein is 100% pure: nothing added except pure organic grass-fed whey protein.

Gluten-Free

Our grass fed organic whey protein is naturally gluten-free, making it an acceptable supplement for people looking to reduce gluten from their diet. While it is packaged in a plant that also handles wheat products, we do our best to make sure there is no cross mixing with any gluten containing products.

Un(non)Denatured - Cold Filter Processed

Using a special low temperature processing method, we are able to produce a whey protein that is truly undenatured. Which means its that much healthier for you. Our unique process involves using a propietary method of cold processing using microfiltration. We take certified organic, raw whey from small local farms, which according to FDA rules must be pastuerized at 162 degrees farenheit for 15 seconds. We do not homogenize the milk. We first cool the whey to 40 degrees farenheit. Other protein manufacturers keep the whey at 90-100F coming off the cheese vats, which can produce to hydolysis and off-flavors. Then we process the whey after pasteurization at 60F, i.e. cooler temperatures for ultrafiltration to separate the protein and to keep the protein in its native state. As a result, our whey protein is undenatured or native.

rBGH & rBST Hormone-Free

Who wants hormones in their diet? Not us! That is why all our milk is hormone free. We don't think our organic cows need to be unnaturally forced to produce more milk. Our cows are allowed to produce milk naturally, without the injection of potentially unhealthy hormones to induce milk production. Our whey comes from milk that does NOT contain the rBGH or rBST hormone. These hormones are synthesized in a lab and used by many dairy farmers. Its use is banned in the European Union and Canada, but is still allowed in the United States. It works by stimulating the production of milk. Unfortunately, along with the increase in milk production come a number of detrimental effects to both the cow and the people who drink the milk. We completely oppose this practice!

GMO-Free

GMOs are a big deal. Becoming more and more prevalent in our food chain, they offer a potentially catastrophic environmental end-game. That is why our organic grass-fed whey protein is made from milk that is completely GMO-free. Learn more about the threat to our planet from GMOs here.

What is Grass Fed Milk?
What are Possible Health Benefits?

Grass-fed milk goes a step further beyond the term organic. Organic milk is, of course, a healthier, more natural option, but milk labeled and classified as organic does not, by itself, guarantee that the dairy cows have lived a natural, one hundred percent grass-fed lifestyle. Eighty-five to ninety-five percent of all dairy cows are raised in complete confinement, even some that yield organic milk. Typical dairy cows survive on a diet of overly-processed grains and are routinely injected with hormones. The purpose of the hormones is to stimulate an increase in milk production and though the volume of milk might go up, the quality of its nutrients goes down. These conventional dairy cows, and the milk they produce, are also negatively impacted by the regular use of antibiotics, steroids, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and chemical pesticides. On the contrary, grass-fed cows graze freely in a pasture year-round and rather than being fed a processed diet, they get their nourishment from fresh grass, alfalfa, and clover. This natural, balanced diet keeps the cows healthy and improves the overall quality of their milk, making it richer in beneficial fats, vitamins, and minerals. And though, cows who live their lives free to roam the pastures will produce less milk than those in confinement, their milk is higher in essential nutrients. Grass-fed milk is also typically minimally pasteurized and not homogenized. The process of homogenization has been linked to the rising rates of dairy allergies.

Grass-fed milk is best consumed as whole milk because this is its least processed form. In its most pure state, the milk will provide significant amounts of omega-3s, omega-6s, and other key nutrients. The typical modern American diet contains far too many omega-6s and not enough omega-3s. An unbalanced ratio of these fatty acids can cause a wide range of health problems and it is a balance of the two that is essential for optimal health. There is approximately fifty to 150 milligrams of omega-3s in an eight-ounce glass, making a glass of grass-fed milk more than sixty percent higher in omega-3s than a glass of conventionally produced milk. These numbers suggest that drinking a glass of grass-fed milk would be more advantageous than taking a fish oil supplement. On their own, omega-3s possess anti-inflammatory properties, decrease elevated triglyceride levels, and stimulate both neurological and visual development. When a balance of omega-6s and omega-3s occurs, these essential fatty acids can lower the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, allergies, obesity, diabetes, and mental disorders, including dementia.

The most significant health benefit of grass-fed milk, over conventionally produced milk, is the presence of conjugated linoleic acid, otherwise known as CLA. CLA is a type of fat associated with a wide range of health advantages. An increased intake of CLA can boost the immune system, strengthen bone mass, help regulate blood sugar, reduce body fat percentages, and decrease the risk of heart attacks. In addition, preliminary studies are examining the relationship between grass-fed milk and a reduced risk of cancer, specifically breast cancer. CLAs possess cancer-fighting properties and milk from a pastured cow contains up to five times more than a cow that eats a grain diet. There are approximately seventy-five milligrams of conjugated linoleic acid in eight ounces of grass-fed milk. There is also an estimated eight grams of fat in eight ounces of whole grass-fed milk. While the amount of fat raises concern for some, the healthy cardiovascular benefits of CLAs far outweigh the risks associated with the overconsumption of saturated fats.

Grass-fed milk also possesses a variety of vitamins and minerals at levels not found in conventionally produced milk. These added vitamin bonuses can be attributed to the fact that dairy cows, raised in fresh pastures, will have more nutrients in their diet than cows who consume only grain and hay. Grass-fed milk yields significant amounts of both vitamin A and E. The milk is also a good source of vitamin B2, iodine, phosphorus, selenium, calcium, and protein. More than twenty-percent of the daily recommended value of vitamin B12 can be found in a glass of grass-fed milk. The increased levels of vitamin D are beneficial to the improvement of overall bone health. Vitamin D is necessary for the proper absorption of calcium and can lead to a decrease in fractures and osteoporosis. Beta-carotene, an antioxidant that protects cells from free-radical damage, is found in grass-fed milk at levels four times higher than milk from conventionally fed cows. Another added advantage of grass-fed milk is that it decreases the risk of gout when consumed in high amounts, at least two to four glasses per day.

All things considered, the health benefits of grass-fed milk are bountiful. Dairy cows that are allowed to live and eat the way nature intended will produce milk that is far richer, in an abundance of nutrients and vitamins, than their conventional counterparts. Grass-fed milk is also completely free of chemicals and toxins, making it a healthier, more nutritious choice when compared to traditional milk.
